A Gold color metal and enamel device 1 3/16 inches (3.02 cm) in width overall consisting of a shield blazoned: Sable, two bendlets Gules and Vert between in chief the representation of the lion of Saint Mark Or and in base a terrestrial globe of the last landmasses and gridlines of the first. Attached below a Black scroll inscribed "ETHICA ET CENSURA" in Gold.
The bendlets denote reinforcement. Black, green, gold and red are the colors traditionally associated with the nations and people within the African continent. Gold conveys honor and high achievement. Black refers to the depth of contracting support the Brigade provides the Warfighter. The terrestrial globe and its depiction of the continent of Africa symbolize the organization's mission across Africa and support to other operations. The Lion of Saint Mark (Venetian Lion) signifies the Brigade's relationship with the Veneto region of Italy as well as its long history of mercantilism; further, the lion itself represents strength and the unit's commitment to the support of United States Army Africa. The motto translates to "Ethics and Oversight."
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 16 March 2012.
